As night fell, two worlds overlaps, portraying a bizarre scene, yet no one seemed to notice.
One world with stars in the Milky Way wandered about. And the other with nightfall and a very conspicuous dark sky devoid of stars, so dark that the sky seemed to be invisible, accompanied by gloomy and eerie sounds, hoarse voices of what seemed to look like people walking mindlessly.
General An's Mansion in the middle of the imperial city was decorated with red silk and lanterns as early as first light. Once the sky darkened, the lights were immediately lit, and from afar, they projected a warm bright golden red roe. The busy servants went in and out of the threshold and the thick layer of firecracker debris in front of the steps were all illustrative of a festive.
Accompanied by the soft breeze of early spring coming from the south of the Yangtze river blew, the red candles in the lanterns flickered, shaking the auspicious characters on the lanterns.
There was a joyful event taking place at General An's mansion today. The third day of the second month was an auspicious day appointed by the Emperor himself. The Emperor having bestowed a sacred decree upon his beloved General, believed that; the day was suitable, especially for marriage.
As for whether this day was indeed an auspicious day, it was a matter of what was written on the decree. What mattered most was that the emperor must let the General marry on this day. Even if a disastrous event was to befall on General An's mansion today, it was to be ignored until after the person he had bestowed as a partner to the General had been registered into the An's family household registration before anything else! The emperor's words, ofcourse, carried the weight of tens of thousands.
Even if this emperor was the incarnation of Satan, he was still regarded as the Dragon of the Empire, making his words absolute, being above tens of thousands.
What was more, this marriage was heartfelt reward for his unmarried General who had just come out victorious from a battle with a competitive country in the Northern parts just a few days ago. The General along with his army had just led the undefeated and fearsome tyrant Han Chen riding on the crest of success, like a Dragon riding on the clouds with it's head raised up high in glory. After all, who in this world did not know the tyrant Han Chen of the Northern Liang? But now he had been rendered disabled in both body and martial arts, it was a joyous occasion for the emperor and his state, adding to a more joyous celebration of the marriage decree bestowed upon his invincible General An who was the center of all celebrations.
There was grand jubilations in the General's Mansion and the An's Mansion. This double happiness spread to the whole of the imperial city and afar, but the people in the General's mansion couldn't be seen to be in a cheerful mood. Instead, each of them were grief-stricken as if they were being granted death sentences instead of something joyous.
After all…
Captured enemies of war were commonly killed or mutilated. However, a tyrant general dressed in a wedding dress to be married into their General's mansion as the main wife….This, was ridiculous no matter how you put it. And what was more ridiculous of it all was that, General An himself had no news of all this. The General since returning victorious was in coma and under treatment from wounds suffered this time in the war that took place.
Therefore, although the General's mansion was beating drums and blowing trumpets today, adorned with lanterns and decorations, and had been lighting off firecrackers for most of the day, none of the faces in the General's mansion bore a trace of a smile. And the same could be said about the An's Mansion.
Everyone bustled about and watched the excitement, but each tacitly bowed servilely and dared not speak.
This kind of silence permeated amidst the joyful atmosphere, making the atmosphere in the General's Mansion gloomy and eerie.
In the General's bed room laid the sickly paled looking General, one look at him one could tell that he seemed to have one leg in the underworld and the other in the land of the living, battling between life and death. That is, if he truly was the General of the State.
.....
"Let go!" An Ziqi said coldly to his twin little sister An Ziqin, as they were hanging on the bridge. An Ziqin's right hand holding onto the bridge with all her strength and her left onto An Ziqi. On the bridge were a group of zombies in frenzie and gnashing their teeth for their flesh and beneath them was what seemed to be a very calm water, but don't be fooled, because what dwelled in this seemingly calm water were terrifying man eating fishes.
But surprisingly on both faces, were very calm in the face of death. Cornered above and below, yet not panicked in this situation, knowing very well that it was a dead end for them. It was a situation where either they both died, or one one of them was given the fighting chance for survival. An Ziqi's situation was more dire, so naturally the fighting chance belonged to An Ziqin. But An Ziqin didn't want this fighting chance, she would rather die and disappear from the face of the world than live one day without An Ziqi. Abandoned since brought into the world, they had always only had each other. Even when the world ended and in this forsaken apocalypse, they fought and survived together. When they made name for themselves in the base and recognized by the higher ups of the base, it was together, both with strength which was recognized. Both given equal respects. Even when the base betrayed them and abandoned them, it was still together. Locked in the research facility, it was still together. And now that they've managed to escape and finding themselves in this situation, why can't it just still be together? Why do they have to separate here? An Ziqin didn't agree; no matter what, no matter where, he promised; it will always be the two of them!
An Ziqi looking at her resolute and firm look, he was helpless.
"Xiao Qin," his tone softened.
"We.... from here out only one of us can go on, you know? I can't bring out my superpower, and can't contact the system. But you at least have a fighting chance, your situation is better than mine, although you're also affected by the drugs injected in us, but the dose in you is far less from what was injected in me. You can still manifest some of your abilities. I'm.... I'm sorry I'd have to break my promise here..."
"Then don't break it if you're sorry!" An Ziqin's eyes reddened as she cut him off. "Then don't break it...en?" she looked to him pleadingly.
Her look made him helpless. "Xiao Qin," An Ziqi called softly. He was at loss what to say to make her listen. This can't be the end for both of them, she had to survive, she had to. He thought so, but unfortunately, An Ziqin didn't have the same thoughts as him.
"Brother i've always listened and done whatever you say, but not this time. I won't listen!" She relayed stubbornly. "This time....I will make the decision for us!" her tone was firm.
Before An Ziqi could understand her words, he felt the gravity shifted. His eyes shrank dangerously, as An Ziqin let go of her hand on the bridge and both of them falling incontrollable. He quickly pulled her into his arms and wrapped her safely to himself.
"No matter where we go.... I'll find you." he whispered to her 'no mattered whether we're reincarnated as grasshoppers or what, I will find you!' he promised to himself as they made a splash sinking into the river.
