Chapter 1: Cross roads

The morning always awoke with a busy road, filled with people going to different destination and among them was a woman who always passed this route only that this day she was headed towards a different direction.

Hilde was a woman in her early twenties with long black hair that always covered her shoulders and back completely if it wasn't packed up like it is today and an heart shaped face which she owed to her mother.

She was young and beautiful but had no reason to appreciate that because even at her young age she had had a fair share of life. Both the bad ones and the not so good ones. The only source of light in her life was her younger brother and her best friend but to her that was more than what she needed.

And today was another day that brought a little magic in her life as she drove her brother to the college he would be resuming in.

She looked at him and smiled remembering how anxious he had been while waiting for the results, now he seemed nervous. Or maybe she was the one feeling that way, it was hard to tell because after their parents died it had been only the two of them relying on each other and finding comfort in each other.

She always wanted the best for him and provided him with everything he needed. Whilst he knowing what they were going through always provided a source of comfort to her. So she was also sort of nervous wondering how living without him would be. After being lost in her thought for a long time they finally arrived at their destination.

"Oliver"

She whispered and tapped him. Oliver woke up and looked outside grabbing his bag nervously before opening the door in a clumsy manner. Hilde gave a slight chuckle at this reaction before saying

"Hey easy, relax you're gonna be fine"

She reassured him. Oliver gave an awkward smile while scratching the back of his neck.

He walked out and waved to her, she was about to wave back before she got a call from the office telling her to check in as she was already late.

Work was as usual she met new writers and got more work loads. She worked in a publishing firm as an editor. She was always drawn to books and for a reason she believed she got it from her parents because after their death she had discovered a truckload of books that they kept.

Most of them however, confused her as they were written about the same place, people and the villain remained the same even after generations.

It was the most tragic fantasy she had ever read since that time but at the end there was always a reference to something that gave them hope. Whoever the author was she would like to meet him one day.

"Busy?" A silky smooth voice with a hint of laughter rang out. Hilde didn't need to raise her head to know who this person was, she just continued with her work.

"Are you ignoring me, sweetheart" the charming voice spoke again and although this person seemed to be aggrieved it only annoyed Hilde who was trying so hard to bury herself in work.

"What is it?" she asked with impatience. The other person seemed baffled before sitting close to her and complaining in a low voice.

"What is wrong with you? I thought you'd be happy today since your brother just got into college, but who knew you would be in such a bad mood. After knowing you for so many years I just discovered your sadistic side today"

Hilde glared at this gorgeous bestie who wouldn't let a single day off without teasing her and sighed

"I am happy for him, okay?" she muttered.

"This isn't how a happy person would look. Who are you trying to deceive? I can tell that you're definitely sad that from now on you would have to stay alone, how sad must it be.....?" Helen looked at Hilde who totally ignored all her chattering and couldn't help her mischievous mind from thinking some evil thought.

She moved closer to Hilde until there was no space left between them before whispering

"Why don't you come over to my place?"

'Bam'

Hilde hit the mouse on the table making a very resounding noise in the quiet office. Two of her writers who were sitting on a long sofa looked over with a shocked expression. They had also heard what Helen said.

They were originally brainstorming for ideas on a new book they wanted to write together before Helen came in.

They couldn't help but give Helen strange looks. Who would have thought that this woman who always came to work dressed up as a star actually went the other way.

As writers, their hyperactive imagination quickly painted out a beautiful and alluring picture with this seemingly normal conversation.

It couldn't be helped, although it seemed there was nothing wrong with what Helen said, the way she talked actually gave others a different impression.

Hilde looked at this friend who always spoke in an ambiguous manner before shaking her head.

"If you are so free, I can give you work to do. A hundred chapters, what do you think?" she asked with a smile

"Tch...." Helen clicked her tongue before slowly getting up.

"I was just worried about you. You don't know what kind of strange things can happen when you're living alone"

Hilde watched her friend who walked out slowly even though she was practically running away after hearing about work. She couldn't help but smirk in amusement. Helen was always like this, she seemed to be able to annoy both gods and demons with her incessant whining and unreasonable remarks but deep down she was just really concerned and a bit.....

Annoying.

After closing for the day she went home tired and felt a bit lonely because of her brother absence but strangely she couldn't sleep.

'Don't try too hard this is just the first day', she murmured trying to force herself to sleep.

''It will be like any other night."

She was still lying down awake for what seemed like centuries now when she heard a knock outside.

'How strange' she thought.

It was already late into the night, who could be at the door?

It kept on ringing and she stood up slowly while looking for something she could use in protecting herself.

When she stopped at the door she checked the security cam only to find different kinds of fishes swimming, it was like there was an aquarium inside the cam.

"Whoa....." she gasped and decided to open the door.

When she did, she found herself in the middle of the ocean!

In another part of the city Oliver tossed and turned in bed unable to sleep. He kept thinking about what happened earlier and found it rather unbelievable.

'Am I just overreacting?' he had asked himself this question a million times. There was no way he was gonna believe that there were superhumans!

Never!

Okay here's the story

After his sister dropped him off at the college this morning, Oliver's day was not eventful initially.

During the first lecture he had concentrated due to his excitement of being in college but after that his attention diverted and so was his enthusiasm.

There were a lot of work to do and even though he had always considered himself a genius, which he could defend with all the scholarships he had gotten, he still got a lot of headache after a whole day of running around.

Night time came eventually and he couldn't be happier with this. He was shown into his hostel which was actually very decent for a boy's hostel. This was an elite school after all, it was expected that all their facilities were top-notch. A room was actually allocated to two students in order to provide enough personal space for each students. Oliver was really grateful for this especially when he entered the spacious room and actually found it empty. The room was divided into four areas. Close to the door, there were two long sofas and a table in the middle with a large book shelf. Then in the right corner was the kitchen. Opposite it was the bedroom with two long beds and beside the bedroom they had a simple bathroom which consisted of a bathtub and two shower stands. Oliver had a warm shower before collapsing on the bed, he was dead tired. His heavy eyelids drooped slowly as he answered the call of sleep. He was just one step away from that much needed elixir when the door knob turned and a soft sound accompanied by the gentle breeze made its way into Oliver's head.

Living alone with his sister for so long had made Oliver extremely security-conscious such that even this light sound quickly snapped him back to reality as he sat up vigilantly.

In the dimly lit room he could make out the features of a charming young man.

He was the tall and handsome type with a somewhat delicate structure. He had a skinny frame, silky purple hair and a pair of slightly tilted eyes. He looked more like a matured man rather than a teenager. This strange man observed Oliver with a slight smile on his face and maybe Oliver didn't think much of him at first but he had to admit that this man was..... really tall!

This young man was Oliver's roommate Nelson Ed. Oliver had heard some rumors about this famous roommate.

He was in his final year and was not the top of his class, barely average, but quite popular. He was good at almost every sport and was the best at swimming. He even had a record of diving underwater for fifteen minutes straight without any oxygen.

And again as a school for the best students he was admitted even with his not so good results which was really an eye opener. There was a rumour going around that the school didn't accept him at first but later on his family had invested a huge amount of money in the school. Others said that currently Nel's family owned more than fifty percent shares of the school. To sum it up, he was really a hot topic among the college students.

But there was something strange about this rich heir.

He had a strange aura that could compell people to do what he wanted without him asking them to. Most people thought it was because of the superior attitude he had or because of he was from the upperclass but Oliver who never bothered about this things still felt a strange pressure from him.

Oliver decided not to be intimidated by him after being stunned for a while. Nel raised his brows and walked slowly towards him. There was a faint smile hanging on his lips as he looked at Oliver who met his gaze calmly.

"Name?" a deep, smooth voice rang out. Oliver felt strange, just like someone who had been bewitched, he answered in a small shaky voice, "O-oliv-ver..."

'Why did he ask me? And why did I answer like that? This is so weird,' Oliver thought as he had goosebumps immediately.

"You have to answer when I ask you, there is no need to think about it", he replied amused

"I understand....." he was was about to answer before he stopped suddenly and faced him sharply. His disbelief was evident in his expression and almost comical.

'Wait...did he just read my mind?!!'
