Chapter 1: The Missed Curfew

It was a dark and stormy night. I was out way past my normal curfew but I lost track of time playing this new game called Blood Haven Underworld. It was this new game that a few of my friends heard about. We all signed up to try it out and give it a chance. Personally I thought that the name alone was pretty creepy. I am not one to play darker types of games but I thought it would be nice to play it with my friends. Today was all the signing of contracts and creating our characters. I chose a Ghost white skin with long jet black hair and black make up. Yes I know I was going for a goth like look, strangely though it was just me. I am very pale and have Solid black hair and I prefer my loose goth clothes and make up. The character looked a lot like me as I put a long time into its creation. If I am going to have to play the character for a year as the contract demanded then I was going to make sure that it was as perfect as the game can make it to me. Coming up with a name, now that was the hard part. It's a brand new game and only three hundred people got chosen to play it in the Alpha release.

Here is what I can tell you about the game, the rest you will learn in time. It is set in the days before cars. Horses, carriages, manners and nobility existed. Life was simple and easier to do. As the name suggests though it's not a sim type game but a dark fantasy set up. I haven't actually gotten to go in the game yet but I was told by the developers to expect vampires, werewolves, Fay and other supernatural factions to exist. Tomorrow after school I am suppose to go back and finish naming my character and then take my set up test. Apparently the set up test helps you place where you will be and what your faction and contracted will be. I personally want a Fay or werewolf as vampires creep me out. So now I know what I will need to try to get the game to let me be.

So when I left it was dark and a clear sky with an almost full moon but as I got closer to home the moon and bright and cheery sky clouded over and I started to feel the first drops of ice cold rain fall down from the sky. The very first drop landed on my glasses. I sighed and picked up my pace I wasn't wearing a coat as it was May and quite warm out.

By the time I got home I was drenched from head to toe and my backpack and purse were soaked. I still had homework to do but I knew I could get it done during breakfast and lunch.

I opened the side door to a very upset Mother who had a dining room chair turned to face the door and she held a wooden spoon in her hand.

"Hi mom, sorry I am so late getting home. Today was the first day of my Alpha test of that new game. I lost track of time and will make sure that it wont happen again." I said carefully.

"Now you listen here Onyx Athena Falstrom, you wear these horrible and dark clothes all the time. You dress like you are pure white with black eyes, lips and nails. You may be 18 now but as long as you live under my roof you WILL at least obey the curfew do I make myself clear. The next time you come home late I will have the door locks changed and then locked and the next day you can pick up your stuff from the front lawn. Do I make myself clear?" My mom said upset.

"Yes mom, I am sorry." I said with my head down.

"Good now go get out of those wet clothes and take a shower before you go to bed. You have no idea how worried I was about you. Strange things have been happening around town today." Mumbled my mom.

I ignored her as she was normally like this. She was a self proclaimed psychic and claimed ghosts, witches and other supernatural creatures were out there wanting to eat us all. She even performed a Ghost banishing ritual once a month around the house to keep the evil banshee and ghosts away from the house. I was told that if I trusted in myself I could be a great truthsear whatever that is. Apparently it's a sort of psychic that could see the future when their life was in danger and even put up barrier walls inbetween myself and the threat. Its all hogwash in my opinion but I was raised around it all.

I headed up to my room which my mom called the tower. It was a self sufficient area of the house with its own full bathroom, small kitchen area, a large loft bed with a living room below it. You have to walk up a spiral staircase to get to my room door which is at the top. Then you walk into my own living room and dining room combo with my small kitchen of a 5.3 cubic freezer, a 3.2 cubic refrigerator, microwave, electric kettle, portable grill and a double kitchen sink. When you look to the left you see another spiral staircase that leads up to my bedroom that I keep black out curtains completely across to keep my room really dark. Just behind the stairs is my door to my bathroom. In there you see a 2 person shower, a separate whirlpool jetted bathtub for 2, my double sink and my luxury heated seat toilet.

I was a really lucky woman to have this kind of room but I was the only daughter so my father spoiled me. He gave me a generous allowance and allowed me to get whatever I wanted in my room. As long as I kept my grades up and was home on time the rest was at my whim. I did have to attend the weekly family dinner as well. Eating with my 2 brothers were annoying but I tolerated it. I wondered how my Dad was doing lately as he is rarely home right now on business. My father is the world's top archeologist and makes a lot of money. I miss his days of playing games with me and telling me about his adventures but I have other things to deal with these days.

I followed my mom's advice and took a shower before I went to bed. I reminded myself that tomorrow I had a math test in the morning, gym before lunch, then choir after lunch and finally fantasy 101 before I headed to my job as a game tester.
