She was killed in different yet equally gruesome death but his betrayal pierced her heart, making her reincarnated for the sixth time. This time, she was reincarnated into a different body, unlike her previous reincarnations. With the help of an annoying grim reaper, would she be able to find her other half?
It was right in the summer afternoon
In a junction nearby the city center packed and bustling with crowd, some people in paramedic outfits nimbly jumped down from an ambulance. They brought some live saving equipment as they hurriedly walked into the center of the noisy crowd that seemingly spectated over something that they couldn't help but chatters.
The crowd made the way for the paramedics to save the woman who was lying on the road.
Yes, there was a woman weakly laid on the searing hot road under the afternoon sun.
Her pace was pale as blood drained from her body. It leaked out from her head, ears and mouth that it dyed her white dress in crimson red. Because of the frictions between the road and her feeble body, her body was full of wounds that the skin in her part of body shred apart, revealing the bloody flesh under it that it made the crowd shuddered in fright.
"Give a way please." One of the paramedics sternly shouted when he saw the crowd had no intention to move away. Then, he signaled his companions to bring the emergency equipments closer and began performing the first aid.
The woman couldn't move her body but she was aware with the paramedics' action when she saw the first aid equipments.
She tried to open her mouth, trying to say something but she couldn't. She really had no more energy to speak. So, she could only saw them performing the fist aid procedure on her.
What she wanted to speak was, 'Do not save me.' Instead of feeling relieved because someone had come to rescue her like other people, she felt utterly defeated as if she had never hope paramedics to rescue her.
She looked up at the blue sky while squinting her eyes as the afternoon sunlight was too blinding for her eyes. She didn't aware of her surrounding as she immersed too deeply in appreciating the azure sky with fleeting fluffy clouds that reminded her the cotton candy she used to eat when she was still a kid.
She was still enjoying the sight of the afternoon sky when she felt that her body was floating and the sky she was staring at gradually disappeared from her sight. She was now in the ambulance. The paramedics, after performing the first aid procedures had brought her to the ambulance with the stretcher they prepared. They were on the way to the hospital.
Suddenly, the paramedic cursed when he saw the external defibrillator showed her vital condition that declined all of sudden. He could also saw her ragged breathing as is she would die at any moment. He said to one of his partners. "Her vital is declining and she had labored breathing. Ambu bag please." Then, he swiftly put the expiratory valve and pumped the self-inflating bag in a regular manner to help her breathing.
The woman gathered her remaining strength, trying to squeeze a sincere yet hopeless smile so the paramedics would stop saving her. She had given up. She had really given up this time.
In a flash, countless memories of her came back like a flood, filling her entire mind. It was all about her and him.
She met him when she was still an ignorant young girl under the cherry blossoms in winter years ago. She remembered how he decided to pursue her although she had discouraged him relentlessly and never accepted his proposal until she finally gave in. She remembered her first kiss despite it was just a peck on her cheek. She remembered how beautiful the days they spent together, roaming freely on the street at night and went to the lantern festival albeit his dislike towards crowd. She still remember how he smiled and grinned like an idiot that completely different from his cold and domineering image that he built outside. She remembered how warm she was when she was in his embrace. She remembered how beautiful their love story was.
And she vividly remembered how he had betrayed her for a woman he just met.
She had done countless means to save him. She died for the very first time to save him from murder attempt committed by his rivals by sending assassin to his side when he was in foreign country. In her second life, she saved him from car explosion, resulting in her death for the second time. In her third life, fourth life and the fifth life, she died in different yet equally gruesome death – all had because she wanted to save him.
But his betrayal had shattered the faith she always hold on. She believed that he loved her as much as she loved him so she would never hesitated to sacrifice herself to save him, but her efforts were neigh. Her sacrifices for five lifetimes was not even comparable to a woman he just met for less than her month.
So, she ultimately decided to commit suicide but heaven was too cruel that it didn't grant her wish to die. Whenever and whatever method she used to kill herself, it was all useless. She lived yet died at the same time for almost a year until today, on his wedding day, she could finally free herself from the sufferings.
Instead of terrified about what she would face after her death like most people did and she used to, this time, she felt relieved. The heavy burden hanging in her heart had finally put down and set her free. She would have no wish other than death at his very moment.
The paramedics kept giving first aid treatment to her, hoping that she would stay alive until they arrived at the hospital. But, her vital function kept declining.
Her eyes gradually dimmer as her sight turned entirely pitch black. Now, she could only rely on her hearing ability to perceive her surroundings. Her body temperature plummeted along with her body that slowly got stiff. She slowly closed her eyes, trying to feel everything in this world for the very last time. She heard the paramedics lamented, grieving over their inability to save her.
Not long after, the defibrillator showed only a flat line, signaling that she had passed away. Her final sliver of consciousness that barely hung in her body finally parted it way entirely.
She finally died – died for the sixth time.
